Promoting Electrical Safety in the Home, School, and Workplace
Who We Are
The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is the premier 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety at home and in the workplace. Founded in 1994 as a cooperative effort by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), ESFI is funded by electrical manufacturers, distributors, independent testing laboratories, retailers, insurers, utilities, safety organizations, and trade and labor associations.
Each year, ESFI sponsors National Electrical Safety Month during the month of May, and engages in public education campaigns year round to reduce the number of electrical fires, injuries, and fatalities due to electrical accidents each year.
Whether you’re a consumer looking for ways to ensure safety in your home, a teacher in search of educational tools, an industry professional working to create a safe working environment, or a public service professional looking to raise awareness about electrical safety, ESFI’s website offers the resources you need right at your fingertips.
Our Mission
ESFI’s mission is to promote electrical safety awareness in the home and the workplace in order to reduce the number of injuries, fatalities, and fires caused by electrical accidents each year. ESFI partners with corporations, industry organizations, community leaders, and the media to develop key resources and disseminate consistent electrical safety messages to help raise awareness among stakeholders about the importance of electrical safety in the home and the workplace.
Our Approach
To promote electrical safety education and awareness in schools, communities, and workplace environments where hazards are commonly overlooked;
To encourage and support educators, employers, retailers, utilities, and other community and professional organizations in their efforts to promote electrical safety;
To provide active leadership leader and annual sponsorship of the National Electrical Safety Month campaign each May through proactive media and community outreach; and
To serve as a national resource and a leading authority for electrical safety information.
